Scripture (ESV): “Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up!” — Ecclesiastes 4:9–10
We live in a culture that glorifies independence—self-made, self-reliant, self-sufficient. But Scripture calls us to something countercultural: community. Ecclesiastes reminds us that two are better than one, not because one is weak, but because together they are stronger.
Community is not just emotional support—it’s a divine strategy. When one falls, the other lifts. When one grows weary, the other encourages. When one’s vision dims, the other helps refocus. Isolation may feel safe, but it’s a trap. Alone, your weaknesses are exposed and your blind spots unchecked. Together, your strengths multiply and your burdens lighten.
Think about Moses on the mountain, arms raised in intercession. When his arms grew heavy, Aaron and Hur lifted them. Without their support, Israel would have lost the battle. Victory depended on community.
Community also protects your calling. Left alone, discouragement can convince you to quit. Surrounded by the right voices, faith gets stirred again. God often answers prayers through people—mentors, friends, brothers, sisters who carry you when you can’t carry yourself.
Prayer:
“Lord, thank You for the gift of community. Surround me with the right voices who will lift me when I’m weak and challenge me when I’m complacent. Help me be that voice for others.”
