Steward the Small

Scripture (ESV): “One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much, and one who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much.” — Luke 16:10

Big dreams inspire us, but small disciplines shape us. We often pray for increase—greater platforms, more influence, bigger opportunities—yet overlook the training ground of the small. Jesus makes it clear: faithfulness in little things reveals how we will handle the greater.

Think about David. Before he ever held Goliath’s sword, he faithfully carried a shepherd’s staff. Killing lions and bears in the pasture prepared him for the giant in the valley. Or consider the boy with the five loaves and two fish. What seemed small in his hands became miraculous in the hands of Jesus. The small, when stewarded with faith, positions us for the supernatural.

Sometimes we despise the season we’re in because it feels insignificant. The job doesn’t match our potential. The platform feels too small. The routine feels mundane. But what if this season is not a delay—it’s training? The way you answer that phone call, prepare that report, clean that room, or serve in that role is proving your readiness for the next. Excellence in obscurity is the seed for elevation.

The enemy will whisper, This doesn’t matter. No one sees. No one cares. But God sees every act of faithfulness. Nothing is wasted. The little things you handle with care today are rehearsals for the big assignments of tomorrow.

Prayer:
“Lord, teach me to honor the small assignments with big faith. Help me see every responsibility—no matter how hidden—as training ground for greater things. Let me be trustworthy in what looks ordinary so You can trust me with what is extraordinary.”

Next Step:
Identify one small task you’ve been putting off—an email, a chore, a call. Do it today with excellence and the mindset that you are serving God, not just people.
