Faith Over Feelings

Scripture (ESV): “For we walk by faith, not by sight.” — 2 Corinthians 5:7

Feelings are powerful. They can inspire, motivate, and guide us. But they can also deceive us, paralyze us, and distort reality. One day you might feel full of joy and confidence; the next day, heavy with doubt and fear. If we allow feelings to govern our faith, our spiritual lives will always swing like a pendulum.

Paul reminds us in 2 Corinthians 5:7 that the life of a believer is not governed by what we see or feel, but by faith in what God has said. Faith anchors us when feelings are unstable. Faith holds steady when circumstances are overwhelming. Faith is not denial of reality—it’s confidence in a greater reality: God’s promises.

Think of Peter on the water. The moment he fixed his eyes on Jesus, he walked in faith. The moment he shifted his focus to the storm, fear took over, and he sank. The storm was real, but faith gave him power to rise above it.

Your feelings will tell you you’re not enough. Faith tells you that Christ is your sufficiency. Your feelings will tell you to quit. Faith reminds you that God finishes what He starts. Your feelings will tell you that you’re alone. Faith says He will never leave or forsake you.

Living by faith means declaring truth even when your emotions disagree. It’s choosing obedience even when you don’t feel like it. It’s trusting God’s Word above your own perception.

Prayer:
“Lord, help me not to be driven by feelings but anchored in faith. Teach me to trust Your Word above my emotions. Strengthen my heart to walk by faith every day.”

Next Step:
Write down one area of your life where feelings have been louder than faith. Find a scripture that speaks truth to that area and declare it daily this week.
